Poem: Beyond repose

Sleep, by Sithzam

Time passes differently
in the still of the mind.
Space and resonance
shudder and reverberate
and my head drops forward;
waking me.

The world outside
closes in upon itself.
Jaws gnash at jaws
swallow themselves and pause.
Then, regurgitate
and start again.

Five minutes pass
with the passion of an hour.
Volatile twitches shake my slumber
jarring with raucous symphonies,
that shoot my eyes
full of blood.

I pull my limbs out and away,
contorting their length
and shortening my stupor.
Blinking; once or twice,
I long once more
for those once heavy eyelids.
