Today’s News
I grew older today.
Today of all days, I just shrunk back
into excited games. And I played.
Today I smashed my chrysalis
with its patina of thirty-six years
and all of their differences.
I looked at my beautiful new wings
but shuddered at my old ones
and all the dust they bring.
I grew closer to me, today.
Much colder, but closer too;
ever closer to just going away.
I grew older today.
